Fiorentina punish Inter with Jiménez opener
The first half ended goalless. Inter had 63% of the ball across the afternoon and completed 510 accurate passes to Fiorentina’s 265, yet it was Paolo Vanoli’s side who struck first. Nicolo Fagioli provided the assist and Jiménez finished. Fagioli was rated 7.38 for his afternoon’s work, Jiménez 7.33 before leaving after 75 minutes.
Five minutes after the goal, Viery was booked for a foul, the first of three Fiorentina yellow cards. Víctor Valdepeñas Talavera followed in stoppage time and Domilson Dodo was shown yellow for dissent in the 11th minute of added time.
Thuram’s nine shots finally tell
The numbers point to a long siege. Inter fired 33 shots against Fiorentina’s 7, with 26 of them from inside the box, and put 11 on target. Fiorentina were forced into 9 saves. Expected goals finished 2.94 to 0.25 in Inter’s favour, while 17 of Cristian Chivu’s side’s attempts missed the target altogether.
Thuram was at the heart of it. He took 9 shots and created 2 chances, and his equaliser came from a pass by Andy Diouf. Rated 8.2, the highest on the pitch, the forward now has 4 league goals this season, level with teammate Lautaro Martínez and two behind Donyell Malen in the scoring chart.
Zieliński needed only 12 minutes. His penalty in the seventh minute of stoppage time was his only shot of the match, and it earned him a rating of 7.79. Diouf, with 3 key passes, was rated 7.7.
Inter unbeaten in four league meetings with Fiorentina
This was Inter’s third straight win in all competitions, after victories over Bologna and Shakhtar Donetsk. Their Serie A record now reads 7 wins and 1 draw. Against Fiorentina, they have now gone four league meetings without defeat, having drawn 1-1 in Florence on 22 March and won 3-0 at home on 29 October 2025.
For Fiorentina, the picture is bleak. It was their third consecutive defeat, following losses to Genoa and Como. They have won only once in 8 league games and sit level on points and goal difference with Parma, one point above bottom side Venezia.
Inter travel to Venezia on Wednesday 28 October. Fiorentina host Atalanta a day later, on Thursday 29 October.
