Liverpool have a quick turnaround after their 6-3 win over LASK in the Champions League on Wednesday as they take on Brentford on matchday seven of the Premier League at 3:00pm on Saturday at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Andoni Iraola’s men suffered their first defeat of the English top-flight campaign at Manchester City’s hands last weekend but have a chance to get back to winning ways domestically against the Bees. Here is a look at the line-up the Reds could go with.
Goalkeeper – Alisson Becker is set to feature in goal ahead of Giorgi Mamardashvili, retaining his number one status in the process.
Defenders – Virgil van Dijk came off the bench in Liverpool’s Champions League game to play the final half hour but is expected to return to the line-up against Brentford. The captain is expected to partner Jeremy Jacquet in the heart of the backline.
Ronald Araujo, who played as a centre back against LASK and bagged his first goal for the Reds, could revert to playing as the right back, replacing Jeremie Frimpong in the role despite the Dutchman’s solid display on Wednesday. There may also be a change in store at left back with Milos Kerkez potentially starting ahead of Kostas Tsimikas.
Mac Allister returns, Munoz replaces Ngumoha
Midfielders – Trey Nyoni is having a fair shot at opportunities in midfield this season.
With Ryan Gravenberch suspended and Dominik Szoboszlai unlikely to be risked ahead of next Tuesday’s fixture versus Villarreal, the 19-year-old is expected to play in the double pivot in midfield yet again. This time, Alexis Mac Allister may partner with him having started the clash against LASK from the bench. Florian Wirtz, meanwhile, could continue at number 10.
Rio Ngumoha was employed on the right wing in the Champions League outing but could move back to the bench, paving the way for Victor Munoz to start. Bradley Barcola was the star of the show in Austria for the Reds and his hat-trick is set to be rewarded with more minutes as the Frenchman is likely to start on the left flank, hoping to find his maiden Premier League goal.
Forward – Like Szoboszlai’s, Alexander Isak’s fitness might also be managed carefully ahead of the Champions League next week, so Lewis Koumas may retain his place in the team as the striker.
Here is how Liverpool are likely to look on paper.
