Everton are reportedly leading the race to sign Galatasaray midfielder Gabriel Sara, as per Football Insider.
After joining Norwich City from Sao Paulo back in 2022, the 27-year-old initially took time to settle into his new surroundings before displaying promising performances during the 2023/24 campaign.
In 50 appearances across all competitions, the Brazilian scored 13 goals and registered as many assists. Having been impressed by him, Cimbom decided to purchase him a couple of years ago.
Sara has enjoyed a successful time in Turkiye, winning two Super Lig titles and a domestic cup competition. This season, he has made four goal contributions in seven league appearances.
Now, Football Insider report that Everton are interested in Sara and are keeping a close eye on his performances before making a potential swoop next year.
Newcastle United expressed their interest in the South American this summer but ultimately decided to purchase other targets. So, they may opt not to make a move for him anymore; as a result, Everton are the favourites to seal the deal.
However, the report state that Galatasaray have no intention of letting Sara, valued at around £23m by Transfermarkt, leave in mid-season, with his existing deal set to run until 2029.
Sara to Everton
But with The Friedkin Group ready to sell Everton, it is highly unlikely that the club will be able to sign Sara before the takeover, which is expected to be completed before the end of this season.
Sara is a technically gifted, left-footed, versatile midfielder as he can play anywhere across the middle of the park. He can play threading passes between the lines, and works hard without possession.
The Brazilian is a talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Everton should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Merseyside club eventually manage to lure Sara to the Hill Dickinson Stadium next year.
Meanwhile, David Moyes currently has James Garner, Christian Norgaard, Hayden Hackney and Harrison Armstrong as the deeper midfield options. However, Hackney has featured as a rotational option, while Norgaard has struggled with fitness problems thus far this season.
