Chelsea and Liverpool have reportedly made contact over a deal to sign Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi, as per TEAMtalk.
After being impressed by the 27-year-old’s performances for Real Sociedad, the Gunners decided to purchase him by paying a big fee last year.
The Spaniard enjoyed a promising start at the Emirates Stadium but struggled to continue the momentum during the climax stage of last campaign.
Following Bruno Guimaraes’ arrival last summer, Zubimendi has found himself on the periphery this season. Mikel Arteta has even preferred to use Myles Lewis-Skelly ahead of the former Real Sociedad star.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Zubimendi is open to leaving Arsenal to turn the situation around, and Arteta is reluctantly ready to sanction his departure, with the midfielder likely to be allowed to leave on loan.
Chelsea and Liverpool have been made contact to make aware of his availability but the Reds aren’t considering signing him, having previously failed to persuade him to join.
Moreover, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have shown interest in bringing him back to La Liga. On the other hand, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have been informed about his availability.

Zubimendi is valued at around £54m by Transfermarkt and still has a contract until 2030. Therefore, Arsenal are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to sell him permanently next year.
Zubimendi likes to be deployed in the defensive midfield position but has even featured in the right-back position under Arteta. Moreover, he can provide cover in the box-to-box role if needed. He is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, is good in the air, and is efficient in defensive contributions.
Despite his recent struggles at the Emirates Stadium, he is a talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. He was even a key part of Spain’s World Cup-winning squad last summer.
Therefore, Zubimendi might be a shrewd acquisition for Chelsea or Liverpool should either club purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the West London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.
