Bayern Munich CEO confirms Harry Kane contract extension is near

Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has revealed that Harry Kane’s anticipated contract extension is nearing completion, with the major issues already settled and only the final legal details remaining.

As reported by Kicker, Dreesen confirmed on Wednesday evening, following Bayern’s emphatic 6-1 DFB-Pokal victory over 1. FC Magdeburg, that the Bundesliga champions had reached an understanding with their star striker even before Monday’s Ballon d’Or ceremony.

“We’re working on the details,” Dreesen explained, according to Kicker. “That simply takes a few days. It’s normal when lawyers exchange the finer points with one another. We had already discussed and negotiated all the important issues before the Ballon d’Or ceremony.”

The development represents another significant step toward securing Kane’s long-term future in Munich. The England captain’s current contract expires at the end of the current campaign, with Bayern having worked for some time to extend his stay beyond that date.

Dreesen’s latest comments indicate that the substantive negotiations have now been completed, although the agreement has yet to be formally signed and announced.

Dreesen emphasizes Bayern’s desire to keep Kane

Dreesen also reflected on the extensive negotiations required to bring Kane to Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023. The Bayern executive was personally involved in securing what remains the most expensive transfer in Bundesliga history.

The CEO suggested that the discussions surrounding Kane’s extension have been similarly intensive, involving the striker’s father and brother.

“There were naturally many conversations with Kane’s father and brother back then, and that’s how it is now as well,” Dreesen explained in comments reported by Kicker. “But we both know that we want to extend this arrangement for as long as possible.”

Bayern’s determination to retain Kane is hardly surprising. The England captain has established himself as the focal point of the club’s attack since arriving from Tottenham, combining extraordinary goalscoring consistency with an increasingly important creative role.

The 33-year-old’s latest individual achievement has only strengthened his standing at the club. Kane claimed the 2026 Ballon d’Or on Monday evening, becoming the first Englishman to win the prestigious award since Michael Owen in 2001.

Ballon d’Or winner rested ahead of Dortmund showdown

Kane was given the evening off as Bayern comfortably dispatched Magdeburg in the second round of the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday. Interim head coach Aaron Danks explained that the decision had been taken following discussions with the striker about his recent workload.

“I spoke to him,” Danks told reporters. “He’s played a lot recently.”

Ismael Saibari deputized in Kane’s central attacking position and contributed a goal and an assist as Bayern progressed with a comprehensive 6-1 victory.

Danks had already spoken enthusiastically about his compatriot’s individual recognition earlier in the week. As GGFN reported following Tuesday’s pre-match press conference, the English coach expressed his delight at seeing Kane rewarded for his achievements while emphasizing that the striker would quickly refocus on his footballing responsibilities.

Kane is expected to return to Bayern’s starting XI for Saturday evening’s Bundesliga meeting with Borussia Dortmund. Further celebrations of his Ballon d’Or triumph are planned ahead of the encounter at the Allianz Arena.
