Manchester United have now gone five matches without victory in all competitions after losing 2-0 to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday, compounding the pressure on Michael Carrick.
Having led the Red Devils to a strong end to last season, Carrick has not been able to yield the same results in the ongoing campaign – his first as the permanent boss – and if results continue this way, it is fair to think he will lose his job soon.
United have already commenced their search of a replacement in the background and according to The Sun, they have identified Brighton & Hove Albion Fabian Hurzeler as their former player’s successor in the dugout.
Brighton have been one of the Premier League’s most exciting sides to watch in the last 12 to 15 months, with Hurzeler’s aggressive, fluid and possession-based style of football earning him widespread plaudits.
Hurzeler move unlikely midway through the season
Fabian Hurzeler promises to be an excellent coaching candidate for Manchester United. While his attacking style makes him popular, his defensive structure, pressing and zonal dominance ensure the former St. Pauli head coach has an all-round profile.
Despite Man United’s interest in him and possible readiness to buy his contract out, Brighton & Hove Albion are unlikely to let the 33-year-old leave when the season is ongoing as they are pushing for a place in Europe next year and will have their ambitions hampered by a managerial change.
If United decide to part ways with Carrick in the near future, all things point towards them looking for an interim figure in the dugout until the end of the campaign or potentially even bringing in Antonio Conte, who is free and available to join immediately.
The Red Devils are up against Leeds United on matchday seven of the Premier League this weekend and will search for only their second win of the English top flight in the season as they look to relieve some pressure off themselves.
