Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL|12) witnessed a nail-biting encounter as Sydney Sixers edged past Melbourne Stars by just one run in the 12th match of the tournament. Both sides produced an entertaining contest at the crease, with the result remaining uncertain until the final moments. While Ellyse Perry‘s unbeaten knock of 84 powered the Sixers to a competitive total, Frankie Nicklin provided one of the standout moments of the match with a brilliant delivery to dismiss Amy Jones.
Frankie Nicklin dismisses Amy Jones with a beauty
Melbourne Stars wicketkeeper-batter Jones looked to build momentum during the chase but was eventually undone by a terrific delivery from Nicklin. The dismissal came on the final ball of the ninth over when Nicklin bowled a tossed-up delivery outside the off stump. Jones spotted an opportunity to attack and attempted an ambitious shot towards the mid-wicket region, looking to send the ball into the leg side.
However, the England batter failed to make the desired connection. The delivery turned sharply after pitching, beating Jones’ attempted stroke and crashing into the middle stump. The bails were dislodged as Nicklin celebrated an important breakthrough for the Sydney Sixers. Jones departed after scoring 28 runs from 26 deliveries. Although she had spent some valuable time at the crease, her dismissal left the Melbourne Stars with another challenge in their pursuit of the target.
