Arsenal return to Champions League action with the Emirates Stadium hosting its first match of the European season as Lille visit last season’s runner-ups as the hosts seek their second win of the competition on matchday two of the league phase.
Having seen off Napoli in a hard-fought outing in their previous continental fixture, Arsenal will fancy their chances of winning more comfortably against tonight’s opposition. Here is a look at how the Gunners are expected to line-up for the fixture.
Goalkeeper – David Raya is expected to retain his place in goal ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Defenders – Jurrien Timber came off the bench against Leeds United at the weekend, but he could start at right back in the Champions League game at Ben White’s expense. Meanwhile, Riccardo Calafiori is expected to continue at left back, as are Ezri Konsa and Gabriel Magalhaes in the heart of the defensive quartet.
Eze starts on the left wing
Midfielders – Declan Rice is one of Arsenal’s indispensable players under Mikel Arteta, while Myles Lewis-Skelly is consolidating his place in the double pivot next to the former West Ham United star. The English internationals are expected to start once again versus Lille, with the match-winner against Napoli, Martin Odegaard, the favourite to play at number 10.
Bukayo Saka is enduring a very poor run of form but continues to have his manager’s trust, so he could be Arsenal’s right winger once more but a change is likely to be in the offing on the left flank as £60 million star Eberechi Eze could come into the starting eleven ahead of Noni Madueke.
Forward – Kai Havertz is likely to be picked to lead Arsenal’s line once again as their number nine.
Here is a look at how the home side’s possible playing eleven is expected to pan out on paper.
