Tadej Pogačar has won the 2026 Tour de France, securing a record-equalling fifth yellow jersey after another commanding three weeks of racing.

The UAE Team Emirates-XRG leader completed the Tour in 73 hours, 56 minutes and 26 seconds. Remco Evenepoel finished second, six minutes and 26 seconds behind, while Pogačar’s team-mate Isaac del Toro completed the podium at nine minutes and 42 seconds.

Pogačar’s victory moves him alongside Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Induráin as one of only five riders to have won the Tour five times.

Mathieu van der Poel claimed the final stage on the Champs-Élysées, holding off Jasper Philipsen and Mads Pedersen in a dramatic photo finish. The result gave Van der Poel his second victory of the race and brought the 113th Tour de France to an entertaining conclusion.

Pogačar completes a dominant Tour de France victory

Pogačar began the final day with an unassailable advantage after successfully navigating the last Alpine stage to Alpe d’Huez.

The Slovenian won five stages during the race, taking victories at Les Angles, Gavarnie-Gèdre, Le Lioran, Le Markstein and Alpe d’Huez. His ability to gain time across different mountain ranges left his rivals fighting for the remaining podium positions.

After Team Visma-Lease a Bike won the opening team time trial in Barcelona, Jonas Vingegaard became the first yellow jersey of the race. Isaac del Toro then won Stage 2 before Pogačar took control at Les Angles on the following day.

Torstein Træen briefly moved into yellow after Stage 4, but Pogačar reclaimed the lead with victory at Gavarnie-Gèdre and never surrendered it again.

Pogačar’s fifth triumph follows his previous Tour victories in 2020, 2021, 2024 and 2025.

His place among cycling’s most successful riders are explored in our Tadej Pogačar profile.

Tour de France 2026 final general classification

The official Tour de France classifications confirmed Pogačar as the winner ahead of Evenepoel and Del Toro. French riders Paul Seixas and Lenny Martinez completed the top five.

Position Rider Team Time or gap
1 Tadej Pogačar UAE Team Emirates-XRG 73h 56min 26sec
2 Remco Evenepoel Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe +6min 26sec
3 Isaac del Toro UAE Team Emirates-XRG +9min 42sec
4 Paul Seixas Decathlon CMA CGM +11min 56sec
5 Lenny Martinez Bahrain Victorious +13min 02sec
6 Mattias Skjelmose Lidl-Trek +14min 59sec
7 Juan Ayuso Lidl-Trek +17min 48sec
8 Richard Carapaz EF Education-EasyPost +20min 00sec
9 Tom Pidcock Pinarello-Q36.5 +29min 28sec
10 Jordan Jegat TotalEnergies +33min 21sec

Evenepoel strengthened his grip on second place by winning Stages 15 and 16. His victory in the individual time trial reduced Pogačar’s advantage, although it never placed the yellow jersey under serious threat.

Del Toro delivered one of the breakthroughs of the Tour. The Mexican won Stage 2, finished third overall and secured the white jersey as the race’s leading young rider.

Seixas finished only two minutes and 14 seconds behind Del Toro in the young rider classification. His fourth place overall also encouraged French cycling, despite the country’s long wait for another home Tour winner.

Van der Poel wins a dramatic Paris finale

The final stage was reduced from its original 133km route to an 89km race based entirely in Paris. Organisers made the change after security and emergency personnel were redirected to help deal with wildfires elsewhere in France.

General classification times were taken before the final Montmartre circuit, protecting the overall standings while allowing the riders to race aggressively for the stage.

Pogačar attacked on the Butte Montmartre and Van der Poel followed. The pair opened a small advantage before heading towards the Champs-Élysées, although the chasing group closed rapidly during the final kilometres.

Van der Poel continued alone after Pogačar dropped back. The Dutch rider appeared certain to be caught as Philipsen and Pedersen launched their sprints, but he found enough strength to hold on by the narrowest of margins.

The victory gave Van der Poel his second stage success of the Tour after his earlier win in Ussel.

The final report from Paris confirmed Philipsen in second and Pedersen in third.

Who won the Tour de France jerseys?

Pogačar won the yellow jersey as the overall race champion, while three other riders left Paris as classification winners.

Mads Pedersen secured the green jersey following a consistent campaign across the flat, hilly and transitional stages. Although other sprinters collected more individual stage victories, Pedersen repeatedly added points at intermediate sprints and stage finishes.

Richard Carapaz won the polka-dot mountains jersey after an outstanding final week. The Ecuadorian claimed Stages 18 and 20, collected maximum points across several major Alpine climbs and also received the Tour’s super-combativity award.

Del Toro won the white jersey after protecting both his young rider lead and his place on the overall podium during the demanding back-to-back finishes at Alpe d’Huez.

Readers unfamiliar with each competition can find a full breakdown in our guide to the Tour de France jersey colours.

Every Tour de France 2026 stage winner

The 2026 race produced victories for sprinters, climbers, breakaway specialists and time-trial riders. Pogačar led the way with five individual wins, while Tim Merlier collected three sprint victories.

Evenepoel, Carapaz and Van der Poel each won twice. Del Toro, Pedersen, Olav Kooij, Søren Wærenskjold, Mauro Schmid and Jasper Philipsen also took individual stages.

21 Paris circuit Mathieu van der Poel

The stage results underline Pogačar’s versatility. He won at altitude, on steep summit finishes and across difficult multi-climb mountain stages.

However, the race also offered rewards beyond the yellow jersey battle. Merlier emerged as its most successful pure sprinter, while Carapaz transformed his Tour with two victories and the mountains classification during the final four stages.

A fifth title places Pogačar among the greats

Pogačar’s latest victory carries historic weight. Only four riders had previously reached five Tour de France titles, and nobody has won six.

The manner of his success was equally significant. He controlled the race through the Pyrenees, Massif Central and Alps, while UAE Team Emirates-XRG also helped Del Toro secure third place and the white jersey.

Evenepoel emerged as Pogačar’s closest challenger after Vingegaard abandoned following a crash on Stage 15. The Belgian won consecutive stages and finished comfortably clear of Del Toro, but he could not recover the time lost to Pogačar in the mountains.

Pogačar will receive €500,000 in official prize money for winning the general classification. That is approximately £430,000 ($570,000), before the team distributes its earnings according to its internal arrangements. A full breakdown is available in our Tour de France prize money guide.

The final standings leave the sport with a clear question: can anybody prevent Pogačar from becoming the first rider to win the Tour six times?

For now, the 2026 result belongs to a champion at the height of his powers. Pogačar has five yellow jerseys, five stage victories from this edition and a place alongside the most successful riders in Tour de France history.
