Inter Owners Oaktree Explore Satellite Club to Follow City and Chelsea Model

Inter

Oaktree is exploring a satellite club for Inter to develop young players abroad, with targets in four countries but no deal confirmed.

Inter’s American owners Oaktree are reportedly exploring the possibility of acquiring a second European club to sit within the Nerazzurri’s wider football operation.

According to reports, the proposed satellite-club project would be intended to help develop Inter’s young players and increase their value.

Oaktree remains in an exploratory phase, with no specific target identified or deal confirmed.

Oaktree Explores Satellite Club For Inter

Oaktree is examining potential acquisitions in Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

The preferred target would be a club playing in a first division.

That structure could give Inter players an opportunity to gain regular senior experience abroad while remaining within the same wider ownership group.

The reporting presents the idea as a way of creating an additional development route for Nerazzurri youngsters, rather than as a completed expansion.

The report suggests Oaktree hope to identify the right opportunity and complete an acquisition during the current season.

However, no club has been confirmed and the process is still described as exploratory.

Oaktree’s interest in football extends beyond Inter alone.

The fund has also been linked with the NBA Europe project and reported interest in taking a minority stake in Olimpia Milano’s basketball operation, part of a broader pattern of sporting investment.

The BlueCo And Manchester City Model

The proposed move would follow an approach already used by major football ownership groups.

Manchester City’s City Football Group and Red Bull have built club networks across different countries, while Chelsea’s parent company BlueCo controls Strasbourg in France as a second pole of its own project.

Parma owners the Krause Group have also expanded into Portugal through the acquisition of Casa Pia.

Casa Pia’s Lisbon location and status as a relatively small Primeira Liga club make it an example of the type of operation that could appeal to Inter and Oaktree as they consider their options.

What The Plan Could Mean For Inter’s Academy

If the project materialises, a satellite club could provide a further step for Inter academy products after youth football and the Under-23 side, and before the Inter first team.

That pathway is becoming more concrete regardless.

Inter’s Under-23 side is set to begin training at the same sporting complex as the first team, tightening the link between the club’s development levels even before any satellite club is in place.

The stated aim in the reporting is to develop Nerazzurri youngsters and increase their market value.

For Oaktree, the acquisition would also represent a longer-term expansion of its presence in football beyond Inter.

The potential financial and governance implications of any arrangement have not been confirmed.

What’s Next For Oaktree and Inter?

Oaktree is monitoring clubs in Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland, but has not selected an acquisition target.

The report indicates that a deal could be completed during the current season and that a new satellite club could potentially be available to Inter from the summer 2027 transfer window.

Both points remain reported possibilities rather than confirmed plans.
