Ahead of Rot-Weiss Essen’s clash with RB Leipzig in the DFB Pokal on Tuesday evening, the home fans concreted over the away block entrance, Kicker reports.
The 3. Liga side are looking forward to hosting a Bundesliga side at the Stadion an der Hafenstraße, but it appears some “unknown individuals” weren’t so keen on welcoming the fans of the Champions League club.
The unknown perpetrators gained access to the stadium in the early hours of Tuesday morning and sealed off access to the away area with concrete. Images from the scene show that two fences at the entrance had been fused together with concrete, making it impossible to open. What’s more, several anti-RB stickers were found at the scene.
Employees from the Essen City Council were busy on Tuesday morning, removing the concrete from the entrance with pickaxes.
The club have since announced that the concrete structure has been removed, stating: “It was a brief inconvenience.”
Essen vs RB Leipzig kicks off at 6 pm on Tuesday evening local time.
