Chelsea did not replace Enzo Fernandez in the summer after his departure for Manchester City, but three Premier League losses in eight games are likely to compel the board to consider bringing in reinforcements in midfield during January.
According to Simon Phillips, the Blues are looking to materialise their interest in Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott and have already struck an agreement with him on personal terms. The finer details are yet to come to light.
Bournemouth held onto the Englishman during the summer transfer window but are understood to be open to his sale in the winter, as per Sky Sports. The Cherries will, however, look for £100 million to part company with one of their brightest talents.
Scott a brilliant winter signing for Chelsea
Jordan Henderson’s experience has been vital for Chelsea’s relatively inexperienced midfield in recent weeks, but to challenge for the higher berths in the Premier League standings, the Londoners need to invest on a better option in the middle of the park.
Alex Scott would be a terrific signing for them during the January transfer window despite his £100 million valuation. His partnership with Moises Caicedo in a double pivot is likely to provide the Blues much-needed stability in midfield.
Scott is influential in possession. He can create chances, helps with vertical progression and can beat the press to play balls into the final third. His passing accuracy and link-up play will likely see him tasked with dictating the tempo for the Blues.
Out of possession, the 23-year-old is energetic and works hard to press the opposition, track runners and relentlessly covers gaps between midfield and defence. He is also gutsy in physical duels and makes well-timed tackles to help regain the ball.
Despite spending on Morgan Rogers in the summer, Chelsea have adequate funds to get a deal for Alex Scott over the line and the Bournemouth star’s signing would be crucial in propelling them upwards in the Premier League and possibly in the FA Cup too.
