Liverpool don’t have adequate depth in midfield and therefore, their engine room is set to be an area of focus in next year’s transfer windows as they look to add more options, quality and tactical profiles.
Plus, with Alexis Mac Allister’s future uncertain amid links with Real Madrid and a contract that’s nearing expiry, the Reds have already begun chalking out plans over new signings and have identified the first player they will look to acquire.
Fichajes has reported that Liverpool are keen on signing Barcelona midfielder Gavi. With Dani Olmo, Fermin Lopez, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri and Rodri ahead of the 22-year-old in Hansi Flick’s pecking order, he could look to leave the club next year.
Barcelona are unlikely to stand in the Spaniard’s way and have valued him at £35 million in the recent past. Gavi’s struggle with fitness problems means his price tag could reduce, so it remains to be seen how much Liverpool may be asked for pay for him.
Gavi a solid signing for Liverpool
Gavi is one of La Masia’s most impressive products in recent years and the only reason he no longer has a starring role at Barcelona is due to the sheer quality and depth in their midfield, coupled with his injury setbacks over the last couple of years.
However, he promises to be a brilliant acquisition for Liverpool next year and a different kind of profile, which Andoni Iraola high intensity system would value. The likelihood of playing regularly means the midfielder may also be open to joining the Reds.
The 22-year-old is not the strongest or tallest player, but has a contagious work-rate and attitude in midfield. He works relentlessly to make tackles and interceptions, fearlessly enters into physical duels and helps press the opposition.
In possession, Gavi can hold the ball well due to his short height. He is capable of resisting pressure, easily receives the ball on the turn and intelligently exchanges short passes to dictate the flow of the game.
At a very reasonable price tag of £35 million, Gavi can be a differential signing for Liverpool and it will be interesting to see if he is open to the move in 2027.
