India and West Indies are set to meet in the second ODI of the three-match series at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday, September 30. India enter the contest with a 1-0 lead after an eight-wicket victory in the opening game, but attention ahead of the match has also turned towards the weather.

The forecast suggests that rain and thunderstorms could pose a threat during the afternoon, particularly around the scheduled start of play. However, conditions are expected to improve at various points later in the day, meaning a complete washout is not necessarily the only scenario to consider.

IND vs WI 2nd ODI: What time does the match start?

The second ODI is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm IST, with the toss taking place at 1:30 pm. The match will be played at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, a venue that has previously witnessed several high-scoring ODI encounters.

India will be looking to seal the series after their commanding performance in Thiruvananthapuram. Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill both scored centuries in the opening match, while Kuldeep Yadav made a major impact with the ball.

West Indies, meanwhile, need a strong response to keep the three-match series alive.

Guwahati Weather Forecast

The biggest concern for players and fans is the possibility of showers during the afternoon.

According to the latest hourly forecast, Guwahati could see temperatures around 31-33°C during the afternoon, with thunderstorms or showers possible around the start of the match. The Weather Network puts the probability of precipitation as high as 60% around 1 PM, before easing to 40% around 2 pm and 3 pm.

Another weather update puts the rain probability at roughly 35% at 1 pm, 40% at 2 pm and 45% at 3 pm, with the risk gradually falling through the evening.

That creates an uncertain window around the first few hours of the match.

Hourly Weather Forecast for IND vs WI 2nd ODI

Time Temperature Rain Chance
1 pm 32°C 60%
2 pm 31°C 40%
3 PM 30°C 40%
4 pm 29°C 20%
5 pm 28°C 20%
6 pm 28°C 60%
7 pm 27°C 20%
8 pm 27°C 20%
9 pm 27°C 20%
10 pm 27°C 40%
11 pm 26°C 60%

The forecast can change during the day, particularly because thunderstorms are difficult to predict precisely.

Rain is not the only weather-related element worth watching.

Even if the afternoon showers stay away, humidity and evening conditions could influence the second innings. Guwahati is expected to remain humid, with temperatures falling into the high 20s during the evening.

If dew becomes significant under the floodlights, gripping the ball could become more difficult for bowlers, while batting conditions may change as the evening progresses.

Could rain delay the toss or start?

There is a possibility that rain could interfere with the pre-match proceedings or delay the start if a shower arrives around the scheduled toss.

However, the available forecasts do not uniformly point towards a complete washout. Some projections show relatively low rain chances during portions of the afternoon and evening, while others indicate a greater risk of thunderstorms.

This means the weather could produce a stop-start contest rather than necessarily wiping out the entire game.

For cricket fans, the key period to watch will be the hours immediately surrounding the scheduled 2 pm start.

What happens if rain interrupts IND vs WI 2nd ODI?

Any significant interruption could put pressure on the match officials and ground staff to recover lost playing time.

If overs are lost, the target for the chasing side can be adjusted using the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method, provided the minimum requirements for a result are met.

For India, an early interruption would be particularly frustrating after the team’s excellent opening performance. The hosts have momentum on their side and will want another full 50-over opportunity to build on their 1-0 lead.

West Indies, on the other hand, could potentially welcome a shortened game if it prevents India from fully exploiting their batting depth.

India look to seal the series

The weather aside, the second ODI promises plenty of cricketing intrigue.

India’s top order arrives in excellent form after Kohli and Gill produced centuries in the opening game. Kuldeep also returned to the ODI side with an impressive four-wicket haul, giving India another major weapon in the middle overs.

West Indies, meanwhile, need to find answers quickly. After scoring 295 in the first ODI, they will hope for another strong batting effort while looking for greater consistency from their bowlers.
